Skill Types
Skills in Ragnarok Online are categorized by how they activate and what they do. Understanding these categories is fundamental to building and playing any class effectively.
Passive Skills
- Always "activated" once learned
- May require triggers (being attacked, environmental effects)
- No manual activation required
- No SP cost
Examples: Double Attack (Thief), Increase HP Recovery (Swordman), Owl's Eye (Archer)
Active Skills
- Manually activated by players
- Some have set durations (auto-deactivate)
- Others require manual deactivation
- Some are one-time-use
- Do not inflict damage (differentiates from Offensive)
Examples: Heal (Acolyte), Blessing (Acolyte), Endure (Swordman)
Offensive Skills
- All Offensive skills are also Active skills
- Deal damage to players and monsters
- Can be Melee, Ranged, or Magic type
Examples: Bash (Swordman), Fire Bolt (Mage), Sonic Blow (Assassin)
