Walkthrough

Speak with the Young Man at Einbech train station who mentions "a depressed guy in pub."

Talk to Buender Hikeman behind the tavern (einbech 164, 102). He will mistake you for a killer. Speak with him again asking how he escaped; he will rant and pass out.

Travel to Einbroch. Visit the Hotel second floor, south-eastern room (ein_in01 231, 161) to find Sick Old Man Shinokas in bed. Ask about his residence in Einbroch, then persistently inquire about the mine collapse and Hikeman until he reveals his involvement.

Return to Shinokas; he requests you search Kappelthaine Manor (einbroch 126, 229) for ore information. Speak with the maid who denies knowledge of ore.
Note: Enter the south room immediately upon arrival; talk to NPCs through walls to avoid the father.

Return to Shinokas requesting a factory search. Talk to Zelmeto (ein_in 67, 247) in the factory and complete the Einbroch Factory Maintenance quest (spare parts portion if needed). Return to Shinokas.

Choose "Laboratory" when prompted. The Southwest Einbroch laboratory is at (einbroch 53, 51). "Sneak in" by entering the correct password at the laboratory door. Multiple password combinations are available.

Speak with the scientist inside; he mentions the lab head is on the airship. Click the "Unknown Stuff" object in the center of the machine room.

Take the airship and go downstairs (airplane 34, 77). Find the Drunken Old Man scientist gambling with dice. Buy 100 apples from the Apple Merchant. Give apples to the scientist repeatedly until he wins and reveals information about "Ymir's Heart."

Return to Shinokas and inform him about Ymir's Heart in dialogue. He dies revealing his regret.

Return to Einbech and inform Hikeman of Shinokas's death to complete the quest.
