Novice

Overview / Role​

The Novice is the starting class for all human characters in Ragnarok Online. Every adventurer begins their journey here with extremely limited combat ability, basic skills, and a single Knife to fight Porings on the training grounds.

Requirements​

  • Base Level: 1 (starting class)
  • Job Level: 1
  • Prerequisite: None

Advancement Path​

At Job Level 10, Novices may visit any First Class job changer to advance into one of six paths:

  • Swordman, Mage, Archer, Acolyte, Merchant, Thief

Alternative paths from Novice include TaeKwon Kid, Ninja, Gunslinger, and Super Novice.

Key Skills​

  • Basic Skill (Lv 9): Required to trade, party, sit, chat, and use the emoticon system.
  • First Aid: Restore a small amount of HP using SP.
  • Trick Dead: Play dead to avoid monster aggro.
  • Play Dead (after Job Lv 7): Useful for escape situations.

Focus on hitting Job Level 10 as fast as possible. Train at the Novice Training Grounds against Porings, Lunatics, and Fabres. Save zeny for your First Class starter gear (weapon + armor) before changing jobs.
